December 2 - December 5, 2001
Pat on a (Hot Tin) roof-
Pat Kelly Construction Company once again outdid themselves while installing another new
roof at Deer Hill. Pat's crew worked at lightning speed and the old damaged roof was off and
the new one on in a mere 3 days! Pat, Shane, Mitchell, Brendan and Holtz worked to the radio
tunes of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" and JT's "Up On A Roof". Funding was provided by
a generous benefactor we much appreciate. The great weather helped too.
November 16 - November 18, 2001
This past weekend, Deer Hill hosted the Scarsdale Youth Fellowship retreat as well
as Tom Cowan's shapeshifting workshop. Although the two gropus had very different
agendas and goals, both events were successful. Deer Hill Center will be on Winter
break through mid December when we welcome back Re-evaluation Co-counseling.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday!
November 12 - November 13, 2001
Prep for Prep held a one-night Unit Directors' staff retreat this past week
at Deer Hill. The group was small at only 7 people but much was
accomplished due to focused meetings and utilization of the High and
Low Ropes courses which were facilitated by Russell Teamer.
November 1 - November 4, 2001
This past weekend, Deer Hill hosted Re-evaluation Co-counseling. The group stayed in
historic Sherwin House and took advantage of the extremely pleasant Fall weather.
We hope to see everyone again in the near future.

This past weekend, Deer Hill hosted Re-evaluation Co-counseling's Teachers and
Leaders workshop. Deer Hill was pleased to see all the familiar faces again and we
look forward to more bookings with this organization. Also, the Kligler and Warshaw
families spent the weekend in Ingalls Lodge and discussed future ideas and plans for
Deer Hill Center with our President and Executive Director, Colleen Cannon.

October 6 - October 8, 2001
October 1 - October 5, 2001
This week from October 3 through October 5, Deer Hill hosted the Berkeley-Carroll School
for their annual Fall retreat. Each Fall, the 6th grade class comes to Deer Hill for a retreat
with bonding, growing and learning as main goals. The students are divided into 4 groups
and each group is run through 4 different activities, each with it's own learning experience.
This year the students participated in the Zipline, led by Russell Teamer and Nick Farley;
the Power Animal workshop, led by David Beck; Low Ropes/Games, led by Rick "Q"; and
Wildlife Studies, led by Randy Smith. The students were welcomed on arrival by Jonathan
Kruk who took them for a walk and entertained them with an animated story. Jack McGuire
held a storytelling session with the students in our Loft on Wednesday evening. Thursday
evening the school enjoyed s'mores around a large bonfire and on Friday morning everyone
witnessed the releasing of a Cooper's Hawk that Randy Smith had nursed back to health
after it was brought to him at Bowdoin Park. Deer Hill's goal is to provide a smooth program
full of experiences on many different levels that the students will remember and draw off of
in years to come. We hope to continue our long-running relationship with this fine school.
"They bonded, had fun and couldn't stop talking about Deer Hill on the bus back home.
You have a wonderful team and a wonderful place."
-Nathalie Youman, 6th Grade Dean
